Charity insurance types
Charity insurance falls under several distinct categories; Volunteer and staff insurance, Property/vehicle insurance and Events insurance.
Volunteer and staff insurance
You need to take out employer’s liability insurance if your charity has paid employees &/or volunteers. This can help to protect your charity if there are any claims for injuries due to accidents that occur whilst working on your behalf.
You need, by law:
Coverage amounting to at least £10 million
Employer’s liability insurance provided by an authorised provider
A permanent and prominent display of your insurance certificate on the premises
You risk a fine of up to £2,500 every day that you do not have the employer’s liability insurance that you legally require. It’s essential your coverage also extends to any volunteers who may work on behalf of your charity. Again, we will discuss this with you to ensure you are correctly protected.
Property/vehicle insurance
You’ve a legal requirement to arrange coverage for any vehicle your charity uses and operates on public roads. Public liability insurance should also be considered if your charity occupies land or buildings. This can help protect your charity from claims made by anyone who suffers an injury or loses/damages personal property due to your negligence.
There are other forms of charity you might consider, including:
Buildings insurances, to cover repair costs
Contents insurance, to protect against theft, loss, or accidental damage
Legal expenses insurance, to cover legal fees
Trustee Indemnity
You risk a fine of up to £2,500 every day that you do not have the employer’s liability insurance that you legally require. It’s essential your coverage also extends to any volunteers who may work on behalf of your charity. Again, we will discuss this with you to ensure you are correctly protected.
Events insurance
Public liability insurance can help provide coverage for fundraising events operated by your charity, including fetes, fairs, shows, raffles, or performances. Certain venues may require a minimal level of coverage. Cover can also be provided in case you need to cancel an event due to poor weather.
We can look at insuring all your events across a 12 month period, or just selected ones as required.
